DR SUSAN SCURLOCK MADE HON FELLOW OF THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS AND SHIPBUILDERS IN SCOTLAND

Karen Dinardo is the first female president of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland in their 154-year history. The Institution is the home of the Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame – where each year, at the James Watt dinner, celebrated and elected engineers are inducted. One of this year’s inductees was James Goodfellow OBE who spoke to an enthralled audience about his life and work. On meeting him later, he presented me with what has to be my most favourite business card to date – it simply says

James Goodfellow OBE D.UNIV FIET

Inventor — Pin & ATM

I have worked with the Institution since we started working in Scotland and they have supported our work promoting it to their members and in turn we have used the Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame as a resource for school children.
It was hugely humbling to take a call from Karen a couple of days before the dinner enquiring if I would be happy to receive an Honorary Fellowship of the Institution, even more so to find out at the dinner that it was the first to be awarded to a woman!
